Recently we welcomed our newest charity organization, the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation (CSNSC). Their mission is to “…build a cohesive and resilient community in Codman Square and South Dorchester, develop affordable housing and commercial spaces that are safe and sustainable, and promote economic stability for low- and moderate-income residents of all ages.”

Access to affordable and secure housing for everyone is essential to building healthy and resilient communities. In Greater Boston, the rate of families experiencing homelessness has increased 7.9% in the past year. The BullPen and many of our partner organizations are working to decrease the incidence of homelessness and housing insecurity throughout our community.

We partner with many organizations that reduce homelessness:  Pine Street Inn  Housing Families  Father Bill’s & Mainspring  Heading Home  …among others. If you’re looking to help end homelessness in your community, consider making a donation to the Boston BullPen or any of our partner organizations. Some of our supporters have gotten creative with their donations—several have raised money using their wedding registries and have asked friends and families to make donations in their name in lieu of presents over the holidays. We’re grateful for any and all support we receive!

“I have known this family for a long time. I had heard Lucy speak about fleeing domestic violence and living in her car with her two young children. I saw the impact having safe, permanent housing had on her and her children. I saw a mom who loved her kids fiercely and wanted to protect them. Her way of protecting them was to do everything for them – pay the bills, cook the meals, etc.

When she passed away her very young adult children were both left grieving deeply and had a crash course in taking care of themselves. I am thrilled to say they remain stably housed. Their rent is a fixed 30% of their income, however, they must also pay utilities. Having the BullPen pay several months of utilities provided invaluable comfort to them when they needed it most.”
